Magnuson School Director

I have been blessed to be the Director of MCS since it began in 2004.  I have been a part of public education for many years and have worked in many areas of education before being part of the MCS Staff.

My personal education includes sociology and child psychology, counseling, and my teacher license from Augsburg College.

While teaching in the White Bear Lake Schools, I received the White Bear Lake Teacher of the Year Award and was named Teacher of Excellence by the Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program. I was nominated for several years for the National Ashland Oil Teacher Award Program.  During all of my work experience, God was preparing me to do His work at Magnuson School.  It is wonderful to be able to share my faith with  colleagues, students, and families.  I know that this is a calling by God and I am so pleased to answer the call.

Kindergarten Teacher

I have been teaching kindergarten at Magnuson Christian School since it opened 4 years ago. Before teaching here I taught second grade in a Lutheran School in Hawaii, worked as a Christian Education Director working with students and parents in grades K-6, and I taught Spanish for grades K-3.

I recently got married and live with my husband in Roseville. Teaching at Magnuson has been a joy and a privilege. My favorite part of teaching here is the relationships that I have formed with the students and their families being part of such a caring Christ centered environment.

First Grade Teacher

Teaching at Magnuson Christian School gives me the wonderful opportunity to combine two things I have a passion for, teaching and children’s ministry. I have taught in public elementary schools in Minnesota and Connecticut, as a classroom teacher and a teacher of Talented and Gifted students, and been a Director of Christian Education in two churches. I also had the privilege of being at home with my own three sons, now all adults, as they were growing up.

My husband, Steve, and I live in Mahtomedi. Our favorite activities always involve spending time with our family. I feel blessed to be a part of the Magnuson family. Seeing the academic growth and development of first graders, while watching their faith in God blossom, is an amazing experience.

Second Grade Teacher

I feel blessed to be apart of the teaching staff at Magnuson Christian School.  I was raised in White Bear Lake and enjoy living in this community.   Before attending Northwestern College in Roseville, MN, I went to the Discipleship Training School in Oahu, Hawaii with Youth With A Mission.  Part of my training was to teach overseas in Thailand.  Through that teaching experience, I knew God's call on my life was to teach.   At Northwestern College I was equipped with not only my teaching degree, but also with a Bible degree as well.  I am grateful for the teaching experiences I've had overseas, including teaching in a Christian school in Costa Rica and also for the experiences I had teaching in the public schools here in White Bear Lake.

I enjoy spending time outdoors, whether that is to inline skate, run, or ride my bikes (one which is a motorcycle)!  I continue to have a heart for missions and travel.

Third Grade Teacher

From the moment Pastor Steve Mahan announced from the pulpit his desire to start a school at First Lutheran, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Now God has blessed me with the opportunity to be Magnuson’s 3rd grade teacher, where I can share God’s love throughout my day. Before this I had taught grades 2, 4, and 6 in a public school.

I have also been blessed with a wonderful family, my husband Paul and 4 children, Sam, Matt, Ben, and Jon. They all are gifted athletically and love almost all sports. As for me, not so much, but I do run and enjoy tennis. I garden in the summer and always enjoy spending time with my friends.

Fourth Grade Teacher

I feel very lucky and blessed to be a new member of the team here at Magnuson.  I taught elementary math through the Stillwater School District last year and now am looking forward to the new opportunities that our school will no doubt bring this year.  I am a parishioner of Guardian Angels Church in Oakdale and have been involved with their music ensembles and choirs.

I am a native of Lake Elmo and Stillwater, and have attended college at the University of North Dakota with a degree in Elementary Education as well as a Music Ed. minor.  My greatest passions, besides teaching, are meteorology, astronomy, and music.  I also volunteer at the Humane Society, as well as sing with the Valley Chamber Chorale.

I look forward to sharing my love of God and teaching with everyone this year.

Music Specialist

I have been on staff at Magnuson Christian School since 2004, and my goal has been to develop a comprehensive general music program which includes instrumental music. I have a music education degree from the University of  Minnesota, which I received in 2002, and I am licensed to teach grades K-12. I've taught orchestra in the Hastings School District and in North St. Paul where I am a co-founder of Early Bird String Academy.

I've been a cellist since grade school, and have been involved in music most of my life in several varied choral and instrumental ensembles, however I came to be involved in music full time after noticing the value of music in health and wellness in my own life. As God’s gift of music to enhance wellness echoes back to young David of the Old Testament, I am delighted in honoring God’s call to teach children at Magnuson Christian School.

I am also a graduate of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee’s Nursing Program and have served as a registered nurse in the Twin Cities. My husband Mike and I have three young adult children. My hobbies include Bible Study Fellowship (BSF), playing concerts for food shelves with Woodbury Chorus and Orchestra, attending Minnesota Twins games, and professional orchestra concerts.
