Magnuson School Director

I have been blessed to be the Director of MCS since it began in 2004.  I have been a part of public education for many years and have worked in many areas of education before being part of the MCS Staff.

My personal education includes sociology and child psychology, counseling, and my teacher license from Augsburg College.

While teaching in the White Bear Lake Schools, I received the White Bear Lake Teacher of the Year Award and was named Teacher of Excellence by the Minnesota Teacher of the Year Program. I was nominated for several years for the National Ashland Oil Teacher Award Program.  During all of my work experience, God was preparing me to do His work at Magnuson School.  It is wonderful to be able to share my faith with  colleagues, students, and families.  I know that this is a calling by God and I am so pleased to answer the call.

Kindergarten Teacher (Room A)

I have been teaching kindergarten at Magnuson Christian School since it opened in 2004. Before teaching here I taught second grade in a Lutheran School in Hawaii, worked as a Christian Education Director working with students and parents in grades K-6, and I taught Spanish for grades K-3.

I recently got married and live with my husband in Roseville. Teaching at Magnuson has been a joy and a privilege. My favorite part of teaching here is the relationships that I have formed with the students and their families being part of such a caring Christ centered environment.

Kindergarten Teacher (Room B)

My name is Wendy Cole and I am a kindergarten teacher at Magnuson Christian School.  This is my first year teaching at Magnuson.  I previously taught in the Mounds View and White Bear Lake school districts.

I live in Vadnais Heights with my husband, Dave, and our two boys, Jack (3rd grade), and Andrew (2nd grade).  We love to spend time outdoors, camping, biking, gardening and cheering on the Twins!

It has been such a privilege to be at Magnuson Christian School.  The support and dedication of the families and the staff make this an amazing place to teach.  I feel so blessed to have been called to be a part of this school.

First Grade Teacher

Teaching at Magnuson Christian School gives me the wonderful opportunity to combine two things I have a passion for, teaching and children’s ministry. I have taught in public elementary schools in Minnesota and Connecticut, as a classroom teacher and a teacher of Talented and Gifted students, and been a Director of Christian Education in two churches. I also had the privilege of being at home with my own three sons, now all adults, as they were growing up.

My husband, Steve, and I live in Mahtomedi. Our favorite activities always involve spending time with our family. I feel blessed to be a part of the Magnuson family. Seeing the academic growth and development of first graders, while watching their faith in God blossom, is an amazing experience.

Second Grade Teacher

My name is Krista Ostrand and I am the second grade teacher at Magnuson Christian School.  Before teaching here, I previously was a substitute teacher at various public school districts and also taught grades 4-6 at a private elementary school in Woodbury.  I also had the privilege of being home with my two children during their early childhood years.

I live in Mahtomedi with my husband and two daughters.  We love spending time together as a family.  We especially love the outdoors and taking our two dogs for walks.

Being a part of this wonderful Christian family has been a blessing to me.  I love working with this fabulous group of teachers, families and students at MCS.

Third Grade Teacher

My name is Heather Norman, and I am the third grade teacher at Magnuson Christian School. This is my second year at Magnuson and my sixteenth year of teaching. I have taught grades 3-6 in both public and private schools in Minnesota.

I live in White Bear Lake with my husband, Chad, and our three children, Noelle, Annika, and Noah. I am blessed to be married to a wonderful man who happens to be a teacher, too! We both love going to work every day and are grateful for the opportunity to help children grow personally, spiritually, and intellectually. When we are not teaching, we love to spend time with family and friends, especially the summers at the lake.

Being part of a Christian ministry is a great joy to me, and I absolutely love teaching children! I feel blessed that God has led our family to such an amazing Christian school. The students, families, and staff at Magnuson Christian School are truly a gift from God!

Fourth Grade Homeroom Teacher/Grades 4Science, Social Studies, Art & Technology

In the fall of 2011, I was blessed to have been hired at Magnuson Christian School as the 4th-7th grade science, technology, art, and 4th grade homeroom teacher.  Previously, I have taught in Minneapolis Public Schools and Eden Prairie Public Schools.   In Eden Prairie, I taught with a team of exceptional teachers who worked to integrate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) into every lesson.

I am currently working towards a Master's of Teaching degree with a teaching science focus at Hamline University.  I completed my Bachelor's of Arts degree at St. Olaf College.   While I have a great curiosity for all of God's creation, I also love to create art.  My favorite medium is soft pastels, and my artwork can be viewed atwww.jkpastels.com.  I live in Minneapolis.

My favorite part of being at Magnuson is being able to share my faith with my students and to hear about theirs.  There are so many situations that arise during any school day when being able to share faith in Jesus is the best answer to the problem.  Teaching and learning at Magnuson is a fulfilling experience for mind, body, and soul.  I am so happy to be here and to be apart of this spectacular Christian family.

I live in Andover with my husband Ronn and our three teenage children, Taylor, Kathryn, and Jenny. Ronn is the senior pastor at Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church and is also a Bible professor at Northwestern College in Roseville.

Being a part of this wonderful Christian ministry is a great joy and privilege for me, and I absolutely love my amazing Magnuson students!

Spanish Specialist

Hello! This is my third year teaching at Magnuson School. I co-teach Spanish to Kindergarten through 7th grade.  I have been a teacher of Spanish and Polish for four years through Language Sprout Learning Center. Polish is my first language, as I am the child of Polish immigrants. I became fluent in Spanish after being exposed to it in my native Chicago my whole life and spending lots of time studying abroad in Mexico on various programs. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Anthropology at Earlham College. In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering politically, dancing, and watching comedies.

I enjoy teaching and using a play-and-learn method in the classroom. My favorite thing about teaching is being surrounded by young minds that challenge me to be patient, humble, and playful. I also REALLY love language and am happy to be spreading Spanish, cultural sensitivity, and contributing to our country becoming more of a place filled with global citizens who can communicate cross-culturally.
